When someone does not have the legal capacity to manage their own finances, a conservator may be appointed. When the person cannot manage their own day-to-day care, the court may appoint a guardian for that person. Likewise, a child may be appointed a guardian and/or conservator in the event one or both of their parents is unable to provide for their needs.

Andrew L. Bolton is the founding member of The Bolton Law Firm, LLC. Andy was born and raised in Fort Scott, Kansas, and graduated from Pittsburg State University, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work in 2003. Andy went on to attend the Notre Dame Law School, in Notre Dame, Indiana, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 2006. Andy was previously a partner at Petefish, Immel, Heeb & Hird, LLP, a well-respected law firm in Lawrence, Kansas, and has managed The Bolton Law Firm, LLC, since 2012.
Andy is a member of the Kansas Bar Association, as well as the Johnson, Miami, and Bourbon County Bar Associations, and has years of experience practicing family law throughout courts in eastern Kansas, representing clients in a variety of matters, including divorce, custody, grandparent rights, adoption, and other family law related issues. Andy was a member of the Family Law Guidelines Committed of the Douglas County Bar Association, which drafted the Douglas County Family Law Guidelines used in Douglas County, Kansas. Andy is regularly appointed to serve as Guardian Ad Litem for the best interest of minor children in divorce and custody proceedings throughout eastern Kansas, and currently serves on the Child in Need of Care panel in both Miami and Bourbon County District Courts, representing parents and children. Andy currently serves as the City Prosecutor in Spring Hill Municipal Court, and serves as the codes Judge in Miami and Linn Counties.
Additionally, Andy has a great deal of experience in estate planning, and regularly assists clients in establishing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other tools to carry out their desires in the most effective and efficient way possible, and assists business clients in addressing their needs.
Andy is licensed to practice law in Kansas, as well as the Federal District Court of Kansas.
